The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year round family program designed for boys who are in the firstthgrade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions.

Sea Scouts

Sea scouts meet on Thursday at 7pm.

For more information, visit the Ship’s website  Sea Scouts

Sea Scouts is a program of Boys Scouts of America that was started back in 1912, making it the second oldest of the scouting programs. Originally a program for the older boys of a scout troop, it developed into an independent co-ed program for youth from 14 to 20.

Sea Scout Ship 16 was started in 1999 to provide this kind of nautical scouting program to the youth of Suffolk and Isle of Wight. Currently our crew comes from Suffolk, Chesapeake, Norfolk and Smithfield.

Our program has a strong maritime flavor, youth get to learn sailing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, motorboating, fishing etc. They also do community service projects, like, running a water station for the MS150 and the Rock and Roll ½ Marathon, or singing Christmas Carols at a local skilled care facility, or helping to make Easter Eggs at Beech Grove, or many of the other projects we have conducted over the years. We also have a lot of fun! Besides doing those things associated with the sun and sea, we also throw parties, go to movies, visit museums and travel to far away places!

In the process, we develop good citizens and future leaders.
